Kenpo Karate translates as the Chinese Hand Law of the Fist and is an updated version of the powerful fighting art of Okinawan Karate-jutsu. Modern Kenpo Karate, or Kenpo for short, uses techniques taken from Okinawan Karate-Jujutsu, Shaolin Gōngfu, south-eastern fighting styles such as Muay Thai and Escrima. The principles of these disciplines are applied in a logical and scientific manner using rapid blasts of strikes, kicks, joint manipulations and take-downs aimed at vital points making this an exceptional art for self-defence.
Body conditioning and fitness plays an important role in Kenpo practice and is carried out in a set of very unique drills. As an art of self-protection, a lot of the time is given to understanding body alarm reaction, often referred to as BAR, studying how the body acts under stress and how best to overcome the onset of fear.
