Grand Ultimate Fist Tai Chi is a soft internal martial art from China, most noted for its incredible health benefits. Unlike western gym workouts, which condition only the outside aspects of the body, Tai Chi works from the inside building out, invigorating the internal organs as well as stretching the muscles to give overall fitness and health.
As a martial art, Tai Chi Chuan uses techniques very much like Shaolin Gōngfu but much softer and circular; soft in this case does not mean weak, instead it means to make the best use of the body dynamics combined with breathing and internal energy called Chi.
Movements range from strikes and kicks to joint locks and projection takedowns. Another element of Tai Chi is Chigung, or breathing exercises which not only increase health but also build up the chi. It is possible to practise Tai Chi only for health or for self-defence or both.
