Kenpo Karate | Compact Striking
Showcasing some of the more unconventional training methods used during Kenpo training, this video features compact striking. Compact striking is the practise of generating force from a compressed or sub-optimal conditions. In order to simulate this the training removes the ability to utilise key body mechanics from the sequence of the techniques, isolating specific muscle groups which consequently must compensate for the missing power.
The practical applications for this training are evident from the video as it may not always be possible to deliver a technically effective and efficient strike particularly if backed up to a wall, fighting from the ground or fighting with bound extremities. Furthermore this training illustrates the importance sequential body mechanics in the delivery of the aforementioned technical strike by highlighting the difficulty of generating force without its constituent parts.
