Community Outreach | Martial Arts and Mental Health with CAMHS
Earlier this month, the Modern Kenpo Karate Association jointly held a workshop with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in order to demonstrate the positive effect of martial arts on both mental and physical wellbeing.
CAMHS is a body that offers support to young people for a range of conditions affecting their mental health such as depression and anxiety. As part of therapy, an active lifestyle is encouraged to promote the steady release of endorphins through structured exercise in order to elevate the mood.
We, at the MKKA, are very proud and grateful to be able to support and host CAMHS in the form of a martial arts workshop. We must thank every one involved in the organisation of the class, namely the therapists, parents and the young people themselves who took a massive step to come and train with us. It's a distinct privilege for us to be able to positively affect the mental wellbeing of young people in our local community and we hope that we have promoted martial arts as a route to a peaceful mind.
